Captains & Friends

To alleviate the feeling of being lost in a group of 300 people, belonging to a team will provide individual Friends with an immediate sense of community. Each team will consist of people who already have something in common and most likely already know many people in their team. They may have shared a Reach experience or event together and/or be members of the same organisation, or profession or belong to a common group.

Our teams will enable FOR to distribute information about Reach on a more personalised basis and help identify appropriate Friends to become involved in the various projects Reach asks FOR to help with (please refer to the Magic Wand section below).

FOR Captains
The role of Team Captains is critical to the success of FOR. The role and commitment should be a pleasure. The main aspects of the role are anticipated to include;

  • TEAM BUILDING TIPS: Build a team of 15, by being a Captain who identifies three people who can identify two people who each can identify 1 person. That would generate a team of 16 members. Simple. Another way is for FOR to provide Captains with suggestions and sometimes lists of potential members for individual teams from different eras of Reach’s 30-year history.

  • Is this a lot? No… It is anticipated that this will be once or twice per annum. It simply builds a sense of common purpose and provides a forum for sharing ideas, and raising any issues.

  • The aim is for communication along team lines to be more personal than general email distributions in which messaging can be diluted. For example, we may receive a request for assistance from Reach requiring skills that we know reside within a particular Team. It may be a HR matter, a legal matter, or something to do with IT and there are likely to be teams that naturally have members with these skills.

  • Teams might concentrate on special events such as the Uncomfortable Challenge, the Round for Reach or tackling a project from the Magic Wand project list. Captains will undoubtedly be important in coordinating where the team chooses to focus its efforts.

  • DO one of the following activities to support Reach:

    • Identify and introduce an individual or organisation to Reach with one of the following aims:
